Plot point: Being alone doesn’t mean you’re missing something. Sometimes it just means you’re finally showing up for yourself.
Before I embraced doing it for the plot, I was one of those people deathly afraid of being out and about by myself. I’d spiral into thoughts like:
• “OMG, do they think I got stood up?”
• “Do I look like the lonely girl with no friends?”
• “Am I giving tragic pity party instead of mysterious aura?”
Meanwhile, everyone else? Probably too busy being the main character in their own life to notice what I was doing. And even if they did… so what?
Think about it like this: do you think [insert A-list actor here] is so focused on what an unnamed extra is thinking that they mess up delivering their lines? Absolutely not. So why are you freezing in your storyline for background characters you’ll never see again?
It’s wild when you really think about it.

Becoming Your Own Best Plus-One
Once I stopped waiting on everyone else’s schedule to align with mine, I started experiencing life a lot more freely.
Yes, friendship is beautiful. Girl gang trips? Iconic. But let’s be real: everyone’s busy. The responsibility of adulting increases more and more the older you get. And if you keep waiting for your whole crew to be free, you’ll blink and realize the experience you wanted passed you by.
So time to embrace the pivot: you’re not sad, desperate, or weird for doing things alone. You’re brave, self-aware, and lowkey elite for realizing you’re your own best company.

Being Honest: I’m Still a Work in Progress
I love seeing the girlies going on full-blown solo vacations, concerts, and doing all the things. And while I’m almost that girl, I’m also still recovering from years of watching The Handmaid’s Tale and Criminal Minds. So no, I haven’t solo-tripped across Europe just yet.
But I’ve started with baby steps. And they’re adding up.
If you’re ready to start your solo tour, here’s a list of solo adventures ranked from the shallow end of the pool to the deep end. Use it as a guide, or a checklist. Let me know what you try.
