The Love Island media storm that’s taken over our screens is the perfect reflection of what dating looks like today in this dumpster fire that moonlights as looking for love. And honestly? Aside from the pure magic that was the Season 6 crew, that’s what’s keeping us so tuned in…it’s a crash course in real-life dating chaos.
Let’s rewind back to some of my earlier posts on “The League You Deserve” and “Game of Love”, and you’ll see that almost every point I made is playing out this season.
🚩 “Closed Off”… or Just Out of Options?
With just a week left until the finale, we’ve only got one truly “closed off” couple. And even that’s questionable. Nic only locked things down with Cierra because he ran out of options and panicked thinking she’d leave him for Elan. Same deal with Ace and Chelley. The guys wanted to stay “open” so they could do what they wanted and have their way but it backfired.
The girls ended up with all the only viable options. And you know what? That’s exactly what happens IRL too, except the gender ratio usually favors the guys with more viable options, which makes them even more hesitant to commit, no matter how strong the vibe might be.
🥴 When 5s Date 8s: The Taylor Dilemma
Next on the list of mind-bogglers: Taylor having the nerve to stall choosing between Olandria and Clarke. A 5 literally choosing up with two 8+ women. Then having Clarke play the “patient” game while he continues to let things linger with Olandria? Wild AF.
He should just be happy to be there. Period. But instead, Clarke is out here fighting with Olandria and catching heat from us viewers for it, when really, Taylor should be thankful that either one of them ever liked him back.
This is exactly why you don’t date down, girlies. You’d think a guy would go all in because he knows you’re out of his league but no. Sometimes it makes him think you’re in his league now and he plays in your face with his inflated ego. Delusion deluxe.
And then boom you end up feeling rejected and disrespected by someone you wouldn’t even usually entertain. That’s how you become a crash out.
😳 Hot Takes I’m Still Processing:
Why are the girls having sex before they’re even closed off?
Call me a prude if you want, but that’s usually reserved for after a Hideaway date. Not in a dorm-style bedroom with beds lined up like you’re in a low security prison camp. The bar? In hell.
Why did Chelley trade Chris to get back with Ace???
I know I’m biased. Ace is literally my arch-nemesis because I’ve dated too many of his kind in the past. But seriously… even though Chris might be on some BS too, I’m still undecided. Still, big sister advice: always choose the 6’4 chocolate drop with an athletic build. Every time. Learn from my mistakes. What’s the saying. If I’ve got to cry I rather be crying in the Rolls- Royce instead of the Honda… yeaaaa that’s 1000% true. (But ultimately just don’t be anywhere that’s making you cry lovie. There’s better out there for you. I promise!!)
The anti-Black energy is LOUD.
Andreina and Amaya are gorgeous girls, and they’re getting way less love than Jaden and Gracyn. Not because Amaya’s “too much” (okay, maybe a little) or Andreina’s “boring.” The truth? Only Nic and Chris are actually into Black girls. You can’t convince me Nic didn’t feel a spark with Olandria. But her Looney Tunes mindset over Taylor messed that up, and instead of risking the rejection bc guys will run from it like it’s the plague EVERY SINGLE TIME Nic lied and agreed they were better as friends.
🌪️ Let’s Talk About Huda
She gives manipulative, anti-Black, and male-centered AF. She didn’t flip out on Chelley and Olandria during challenges, but lost it with the new bombshells. That’s not because she trusts her “friends”, that was her thinking none of the guys would think they were more attractive than her so they weren’t a threat.
Then she has tried to trap the Chelley and Olandria into the “angry black woman/ mean girl” trope so so many times, but they’re dodging her schemes like pros and I’m so proud. That could be an entirely different blog post about why some female friendships crash and burn, but for now? Just pay her dust. She’s been clocked.
So who should win the money this season? Honestly… no one.*Cues Alicia Keys 🎶* Just donate the prize to a therapy fund for everyone involved.
Overall this season has been fun and also weirdly affirming. Because everything going down in the villa? It’s happening out too. Just with fewer camera angles, less lightening, and more gaslighting.
So tell me what are your takes? Who’s got it right, who’s moving crazy, and who’s just lucky to be there?
Never forget: Some of the best stories are still unwritten so live boldly, embrace the unexpected, and make sure your life story is worth the MF plot!
