And Just Like That… our own personal versions of Sex and the City Season 1 are starting to premiere.
(They seemed so much older back then, right? Or am I just living in blissful delusion? lol.)
Half the fun of watching SATC is spotting pieces of ourselves in those fabulously flawed, and relatable characters. So of course as predicted: which character are you and your friends?
If you’ve spent more than five minutes with me or followed this blog for even a week I’m sure you’d join my friends in the unanimous vote that I’m Charlotte.
Like, twinzies fr. I’m super Charlotte coded. Even down to the over the top devotion to my family dog. Case in point: I’m currently planning a beach trip solely so Bentley can experience the ocean and sand for the first time. (Insane? Maybe. Worth it? DUH.) I’ve also been actively hunting for an artist to do a proper oil painting of him so when the unfortunate time comes I’ll have a painting to hang of him just like Charlotte did with her dog Elizabeth Taylor after she crossed the rainbow bridge.
When I was younger and a little less grounded, I was sooo Season 1 Charlotte. The guys I dated needed to look a certain way, have prestige, money, and a career trajectory destined for a C‑suite title. Prince Charming, head to toe. And honestly, even now though I’ve matured and softened my checklist the fairytale ending will always be part of my DNA. Like Charlotte, I know those dreams may adapt as life unfolds, but they’re never going away.
The beauty of a friend group just like in SATC and And Just Like That is having all the dynamics. I actually think it’s vital to the success of the group. Charlotte kept everyone reaching for the stars. Miranda brought the practicality. Samantha made sure no one took life too seriously. And Carrie? She was the glue…little pieces of each of them rolled into one.
Here’s the quick guide to spotting your crew:
Carrie – Hopeless romantic. Fashion icon. Always in a situationship that should’ve ended three breakups ago. Might flake if Mr. Big calls, but at her core, she means well and has a big heart.
Samantha – Fun‑loving. Fiercely loyal. Free spirit. About her business, her pleasure, and all things luxury. Will defend the people she loves without hesitation.
Charlotte – Yours truly. Traditional, sometimes to a fault. Lover of the arts, true romantic, and a dog’s very best friend. A loyal, dependable confidant even if we sometimes live life through a bit of a Disney filter. ( I know it can be annoying and feel judgy sometimes but please know that’s not the case. Whoever’s your Charlotte is just looking through a different filter. We can’t help it.)
Miranda – The realist every group needs. Will tell you the truth whether you want to hear it or not. You may roll your eyes in the moment, but you’ll thank her later when she saves you from self‑destruction.
Of course, sometimes you’re one with a splash of another. That’s the beauty of friendship. It’s dynamic and evolving with you throughout all the crazy processes life brings.
If Sex and the City taught us anything, it’s this: keep your girls close, a martini closer, and your stories worth retelling.
Extra tip: Always wear the outfit! (I know you wondering if you should save it for a special occasion but no your life is the occasion!)
Remember some of the best chapters of life are still unwritten. So live boldly, embrace the unexpected, and make sure your life story is worth the MF plot. 🥂
