Do It For The Plot

The sequence of events that make up a narrative

Calling all my reading girlies
 it’s time for BOOOOOKKKCLLLUBBBBBBB!!!

I get it we all got a little burnt out on books after years of being force-fed busywork and boring reading assignments in school. Honestly, I didn’t pick up anything that wasn’t a required textbook until over two years after grad school. So what rekindled my love for romance reads?

TikTok.

Of course..

But more specifically
 BookTok.

First, I got pulled into the Colleen Hoover rabbit hole.

Yeah, we’re all still disappointed with how It Ends With Us was done so dirty on screen (it had potential
if only we could’ve skipped the Blake Lively drama). Shoutout to the fake “nice girls” finally getting exposed in the court of public opinion it’s been a long time coming.

But back to the books. Colleen Hoover reminded me how fun it was to live inside someone else’s fictional chaos. It brought me all the way back to my Clique series and Buford High days. And of course, anything by Sharon Draper. She had the YA game on lock.

Then came ACOTAR.

I was very hesitant to dive into fantasy
but whew, once I did? It was fae, magic, and spice galore.

So. Much. Spice. 😂

Eventually, I realized the real fun wasn’t just in reading. It was in talking about the books with my friends. Or honestly, anyone who would listen. That’s how book club started. My girlies Pey Pey, Kara, and I decided to combine our love of reading, good food, and yapping which led to meet monthly at different restaurants around town (because duh, books and bites = elite combo). We talk about the book, relate it to our own lives, and eat carbs.

10/10. Iconic.

Now, I’m opening it up. Because I don’t want my fellow girlies missing out. Especially when we’re all out here trying to figure out fun, grown-ish things to do post-25. So if you’re reading this blog, I’m taking it as a sign that you’re at least a little bit down to read. Even if it’s audiobooks, that still counts!

Let’s kick off a monthly virtual (and sometimes IRL for my Birmingham besties) book club where we pick a book, read together, and then talk about it like we’re in a group chat with snacks.

Our First Read:

The Skyland Series by Kennedy Ryan

We’re starting with Book 1: Before I Let Go

Kennedy Ryan gives us three amazingly written stories centered on friendship, love, and life transitions. She’s the queenie of writing about relatable characters with real-life struggles. She even curates playlists for each book on Apple Music and Spotify. Like
 how iconic is that?

So grab your copy of Before I Let Go, and let’s make this a thing.

Because let’s be real. It’s way too hot for Pickleball and you were mostly in it for the outfit anyway. 😅

This trend? Way better. Promise.

Let’s read, laugh, relate, and cry (just a little) together.

Because some of the best stories are still unwritten so live boldly, embrace the unexpected, and make sure your life story is worth the MF plot. đŸ’«
